What is Pokémon Go?
In case you’ve been living under a rock, Pokémon is an electronic game series from Nintendo that came out in the late 1990s. It was so successful that the company decided to produce a cartoon series which won over more fans.
In the Pokémon game, players assume the role of a trainer and collect the Pokémon and battle with each other.
Pokémon slowly declined 2010 onwards until the release of Pokémon Go in 2016, a downloadable app featuring augmented reality where players use their smartphones to catch Pokémon.
It delivers a real-life experience of being a Pokémon trainer and fans went crazy over it so much that they would trespass to catch a rare Pokémon.
Latest and Upcoming Updates
Niantic came bearing gifts with all the new updates for the beloved game. Despite being three years old, the creators saw no need to get complacent.
If you’ve since stopped playing the game because it felt too predictable, it’s time to redownload the app because these updates will make you want to catch ‘em all.
Team Go Rocket is here
One of the most exciting updates Pokémon Go has had is that it finally gave free rein for the invasion of Team Go Rocket.
Team Go Rocket lurk in PokéStops and can challenge trainers to battle should they visit.
The battle comes with its high stakes: if you defeat the grunt, you’ll have a chance to catch their Shadow Pokémon!
Shadow Pokémon are creatures whose hearts have been poisoned and overtaken by evil. If you succeed in catching them, you can turn them back to normal by purifying them.
Daily activities to complete
You can keep busy on the Pokémon Go app by completing daily activities where you can get rewarded. Each challenge varies from catching normal type Pokémon or hatching eggs.
For each day you accomplish a Field Research Task, you receive a stamp. And for every seven stamps, you get a Research Breakthrough. This gives you the opportunity to catch either a really rare or Legendary Pokémon. How fun!
You can also accomplish daily tasks by spinning PokéStops.
Keeping track of your progress is an important part of playing Pokémon Go, and thanks to a revamped feature in the app, you can monitor your stats and build a strong enough team to take on Team Go Rocket head-on, lead raids, and battle other players.
All of the stats–Attack, HP, and Defence–are compiled into an overall CP and IV ranking which you can see. The new Appraisal feature shows you the stats for each one, before placing an overall rating.
Pokémon Go Buddy Adventure
Niantic announced that it improved the augmented reality feature of the game. Now, players can see their friends and interact with their Buddy Pokémon through the AR camera.
No longer is Pokémon Go a solo experience for trainers, it’s now going to be multiplayer!
Niantic hasn’t announced an official release date but said that it was coming in the months ahead, so stay tuned.
GO Battle League
Set your eyes on 2020 because the new feature of the GO Battle League will let you battle with other trainers worldwide thanks to a developing online matching system. Win or lose, trainers will be ranked in the league, allowing you to rise to the top or fall to the bottom.
There aren’t any specific details yet regarding this feature, but all we know is that we want 2020 to come faster.
Pokémon Go Community Day
If your friends aren’t the Pokémon type, don’t fret because Pokémon Go Community Day is here.
Once a month, the whole Pokémon Go community comes together and this is the easiest way for you to meet new friends and find Pokémon Go buddies.
Each Community Day is themed around a certain Pokémon that’s rare. During Community Day you can find spawns of the special Pokémon on top of other bonuses like 3-hour lures and double experience points.
Once you’ve made friends during Community Day, you can now build a friend list to battle and trade Pokémon. You can even send each other gifts, as such is the nature of friendship.
Niantic Wayfarer beta
Niantic is currently testing a beta version of its Wayfarer tool, which allows trainers and players to review nominations for Gyms and Stops.
Should this update come to pass, you can now have a say where the new Gyms and Stops can be placed.
